Campaign
By working together, we can make the City of Kawartha Lakes a better place for everyone. The money is raised in the community through workplace campaigns, special events, planned giving, etc., and it stays in the community to fund various programs to help people from all walks of life.
United Way makes it simple, efficient and quick to support the community. Payroll deductions are the most effective way of financially supporting a wide cross-section of funded agencies. All you need do is fill out a pledge form and the amount you'd like to have deducted from your pay cheque each pay period.
There are many ways to give to your community
through United Way:
- Donation (cash,cheque,credit card, online)
- Make a pledge through payroll deduction
- Post dated cheques
- Participate in a special event held at your workplace
- Support us at one of our many special signature events held throughout the year
- Sponsorship
- Corporate donation
Here are some examples of how people in the City of Kawartha Lakes have participated in fundraising events in the past:
United Way and the Rotary Club of Lindsay introduced a new fundraiser to the campaign. The 1st Annual Discovery Gala was held on October 25, 2007 at Fleming College along the Discovery Trail and the Auk's Lodge. Women were treated to a night of pampering while they were greeted by a local police officers and firefighters along with a glass of champagne as they entered the trail. Over 30 exhibitors set up displays ranging from cosmetics to clothing. In addition, women had the opportunity to belly dance or have a relaxing massage. Later in the evening, the women sampled many decadent treats during a stand up comedy routine and a live auction.
In October of 2007, Crayola Canada held its 19th Annual Crayola Sale at the Lindsay Exhibition Building, which raised $34,000. This well-known event attracts large crowds of people who are eager to take advantage of the warehouse prices offered on hundreds of brand new Crayola products. Every year many people come from out of town for this event...even as far away as Niagara Falls. While most people shop for their families at the sale, there are also many teachers, daycare providers and early Christmas shoppers. Crayola is just one of many caring businesses that help support United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes every year.
The Central East Correctional Centre held it's 4th annual Rick Morey Memorial Golf Tournament, which once again was a huge success with over 100 employees participating in the United Way fundraiser. They kicked off the event with registration, a raffle, a barbeque, and drinks. After they teed off and finished their rounds of golf, they all gathered together at the clubhouse and had a big dinner while tons of donated prizes were handed out to the participants. In total they helped raise $3,380 to the campaign from this event!
In August of 2007, the Coboconk Lions Club and United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes held the 10th Annual Coboconk Duck Derby. This event is always held on the Sunday of the Civic Holiday weekend. Many people attended the event as they watched 1,150 plastic ducks float down the river. As the traffic stopped along the main street, people gathered together along the bridge near the damn and along the river to watch the fowl flow down the stream. Everybody had the opportunity to buy a duck and the prizes were given out to the top winners.
Residents from the City of Kawartha Lakes were urged to enter their fudge in the 2007 Bake-off this past December hosted by the Employees of the Ross Memorial Hospital. Eight honorary judges came out to taste the treats and two young siblings won the annual event. Once the prize was handed out, employees from the hospital supported United Way by stocking up on their share of fudge.
This past fall Buck or Two held it's Annual Sundae On A Saturday fundraising event in support of Community Care and the United Way campaign. People of all ages lines up for some Kawartha Dairy ice cream as they had the opportunity to make their own ice cream sundae for $2. Everybody also got to enter their name into a draw for a pair of tickets to see a Toronto Raptors basketball game.
Thank you to everyone who participated
in the 2007 Campaign!
